Mark your calendars for Easter weekend – April 6th-8th – for our second annual Spiritual Growth Workshop. We took your feedback from last year to try to make this year even better than before!
Our theme this year is Lord, Teach Us to Pray! Prayer is a pivotal point of Christian life, but it can be pretty difficult, too! What did Paul mean when he said, “Pray without ceasing”? What about Jesus’ command to pray for our enemies? How do I develop a heart of prayer and be more like Jesus? I’m really excited about this theme because I think it will help us as a church family grow stronger in prayer. A praying church is a powerful church! At the same time, I think it will provide a great opportunity to invite our friends and neighbors who have slipped out of the family over the years. What a chance we have to help people come back home!
There’s more good news, too. We plan to do the sandwich bar again on Friday night at 6 like we did last year before the session starts at 7. (It’ll start at 7 on Saturday, too!) Both sessions will meet in the fellowship hall. And this year – we’re working on bringing a guest speaker to conduct the workshop.
Sid Millson has agreed to come and guide us through this study of prayer. Sid was a teacher of mine at David Lipscomb High School. You probably won’t believe this, but it’s true: he was also my cross country coach! He has been an educator in Nashville, TN and Shreveport, LA for more than thirty years. Sid recently authored a book, Forty Days Through the Bible to help facilitate home Bible studies. Sid knows God, scripture, and people. When the elders discussed the theme of prayer for this workshop – his name is absolutely the first that came to mind – and we will be richly blessed.
We’ll get more information out to you soon – but start praying for our weekend and mark it on your calendars! I can’t wait!
