Ministers

James Hinkle serves as our primary pulipt minister. In other words, he’s the preacher! He’s well qualified by his many years of ministry, service as Bible chair at York College, and licensure as a pastoral counselor. More importantly, his dedication to the church, his love for the Lord, and his compassion for people make him a great mentor for the congregation.

Here’s his greeting:

The world of technology has some amazing things happening. It allows me to come to your computer and say “Hello! Welcome to the Burns Church of Christ website.” You are valuable because God made you–and he doesn’t make junk!

We try to be available for you in special needs. Our focus is Jesus Christ and His crucifixion (1 Corinthians 1:23). We join with the apostle Paul when he writes, I resovled to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. (1 Corinthians 2:2). Jesus is the beginning and the end of our work at Burns. He is the reason we exist and the reason we serve in this community.

I have served this church for four years. It is a good church, and like all churches it struggles with the meaning of life. We have a central purpose and that is to know Christ and find meaning in Him. We are part of the great human race that seeks to get back to the God who created us and loves us. His love is the controlling force in our lives: 2 Corinthians 5:14 says For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.

We pray that you are having a good day and that you are a seeker of Jesus Christ. If we can be of help in your quest, be sure to come and see us.

–James Hinkle

Matthew Hiatt serves as our associate minister. You’ll can expect to see him in the pulpit leading singing or filling in preaching in James’ absence. He works with our young people and plays with all these whistles and bells we call technology. He is a Freed-Hardeman graduate of 2006 and is currently pursuing his Master’s of Ministery from Harding University.

Here’s what Matthew has to say:

Thanks for stopping by to see us on the web! If you’re looking for a church home, you have a real blessing in front of you. While many parts of our society no longer cling to faith as they once did, there are still many of us who know that it is indeed both anything and everything!

I hope you’ll come visit us at Burns. I believe that you’ll find the people caring, the worship vibrant, the teaching solid, relevant, and true, and the family to be just what you needed. It’s a true honor to get to be a part of the Lord’s body.

If you have any questions or doubts — please let us know! We’d love to see you soon.

Because of Christ,
Matthew

James and Matthew both work at the church on irregular schedules, so they’re a bit hard to track down! The church office is the little white building on the east side of the auditorium (closest to College Street). You can stop by and see them, but you’ll have the best luck if you call or email first.
